Reduce your Blood Bank's workload by more than 30%

Problems hiring and retaining Blood Bank staff?

The US department of labor estimates that there is a need for 9500 laboratory technologists per year while only 4500 will be entering the market.

Instead of hiring more Blood Bank technologists, allow the BloodTrack HemoSafe "smart" refrigerator to automatically allocate, dispense and print transfusion tags for blood units in locations beyond the Blood Bank, such as the OR. This process of "remote allocation" reduces the number of blood units crossmatched in the blood bank by over 50%.

Typically, Blood Bank staff spend a lot of time crossmatching, preparing and transporting blood units for surgeries according to the MSBOS. Many of these units are ultimately returned without being transfused. Eliminate this unnecessary upfront work by allowing BloodTrack to dispense blood directly to clinical staff only when required. BloodTrack HemoSafe also:

  • Reduces workload, stress and potential errors during peak periods of demand (i.e. prior to morning and afternoon surgeries).
  • Reduces overtime costs.
  • Allows blood units to be provided 24/7 in remote locations. (i.e. without the involvement of a blood bank tech).
  • Decreases the time to provide blood units to the OR. (e.g. blood can be allocated and dispensed in less than 60 seconds)
  • Reduces the number of returned blood units. (i.e. decreases C/T ratio)
  • Reduces the use, maintenance and expense of coolers for transporting blood units.

How it works

Step 1: HemoSafe stocked with unallocated blood

Blood Bank staff stock the
'smart' dispensing refrigerator
each day with unallocated blood.

Step 2: Patient details entered and blood removed

Nurse enters the patient's
identification to retrieve
blood unit.

Step 3: Blood unit allocated and dispensed

HemoSafe communicates with
the Blood Bank LIS to allocate
and dispense the right unit
via electronic crossmatching.

Step 4: Tranfusion tag printed and attached

HemoSafe prints the transfusion
tag which is attached to the unit
then scanned to confirm.

Step 5: Tranfuse blood unit

Crossmatched blood unit
is taken to the patient for
transfusion without any interaction by blood bank staff.
